Like most design studios, we draw inspiration from trends in fashion, travel, art, global and social themes. We are also fascinated by other cultures and love the challenge of interpreting their culture into an Indian aesthetic. We like to shift in inspiration from collection to collection, to challenge ourselves and maintain a fresh attitude. For example we moved from the bold modern florals of Grandiflora to the regal constructions and jewel tones of Rajasthan. Both ranges reflect a return to less austerity in decoration yet are drawn from very different sources of inspiration. Rajasthan introduced purple based blues and rich gold plus linked back to Grandiflora with peacocks and ruby reds and of course an abundance of neutral shades.
In a challenging and constantly changing industry, Best Buy’s future lies in design. Four collections are introduced annually under the LOTUS brand, designed in the Hyderabad studio. This is an exciting new direction, allowing Best Buy to explore and express its ideas and develop collections, which not only respond to local markets but also offer export clients a taste of Hyderabad’s famous Nawabi lifestyle. Anita Shinde, Best Buy’s design director “draws inspiration from many sectors, our unique surroundings, current art exhibitions, local and international fashion and media and of course travel, but above all our intuition”.
Integral to all LOTUS collections is the presence of high quality natural fibres such as Bhagalpur silk, Belgian linen and Italian viscose and cotton. Modern jute and wool contrast with embroidered lace, luxurious silk, elegant linen jacquard and plush velvet, with an end result showcasing Best Buy’s textile prowess.
The Best Buy design Studio is also interested in exploring how traditional weaving styles and textile crafts can be combined with modern constructions.
